Erik is very excited to continue for his 4th year as an individual, team, and ‘Future Sluggers’ instructor at RBI Sports. He has worked with ages ranging from 4-18 years old, where he specializes in hitting and fielding. His players have gone on to have very successful high school and college careers. He believes in not only teaching the fundamentals of baseball, but getting into the mental side of the game too, and he stresses confidence building. Erik is a NY State Certified Physical Education Teacher (K-12) and has taught at the elementary, middle and high school level, with experience teaching Adaptive Physical Education to students with special needs. Erik feels that the most rewarding aspect of baseball instruction is hearing positive feedback from players. He loves hearing that players feel their hard work has paid off and they feel “successful”. He loves to pass along his baseball knowledge that he learned from some of the highest respected coaches and managers in the country; Lyndsey Meggs: California State University, Chico and University of Washington; Frank Cruz: Loyola Marymount University, Team USA, and University of Southern California; Bill Plummer: Backup to Johnny Bench on the big red machine, Manager of the Seattle Mariners, Chico Heat Professional Baseball Club, and Arizona Diamondback AA; Mike Scioscia: Manager of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Erik was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1996 as a shortstop out of the University of California, Chico. Erik played as high as AA minor league baseball, claiming the Western Baseball League Championship in 1997. Erik retired from his professional baseball career in 1999.
